Since it’s foundation in 1983, Humanscale has gone from strength to strength, building a reputation for creating innovative, well-designed ergonomic office tools. Humanscale’s goal has always been to design and manufacture office tools that will solve functional problems whilst still looking looking good. Recognised by the global design community in 2004, Humanscale were named by I.D. Magazine as one of the ten ‘best companies’ helping to ‘push design forward.’
Humanscale’s first product to make a real impact on the design market was their high-performance articulating keyboard systems which were launched in the late 90s. Humanscale designed their systems to ofer simple, super-quick adjustability whilst eradicating the knee-clearance problems that can often be encountered when using similar systems. Humanscale is currently the market leader in this product category.
Nowadays it is Humanscale’s range of task seating that is making a massive impact in office furniture design. Launched in 1999, Humansacle caused a huge stir in the office furniture industry with the introduction of their Freedom chair, created by specialist ergonomics designer, Niels Diffrient. The Freedom chair revolutionised office seating with it’s combination of outstanding functionality, combined with minimal manual controls so that the chair can automatically respond to the needs of each different user. Humascale have sold over one million Freedom chairs.
Niels Diffrient also designed the Liberty chair for Humanscale. Introduced in 2004, the Liberty chair has also become something of a design icon and has collected a number of prestigious awards; earing a place in the 2007 National Design Triennial at the Simithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. Humanscale’s office seating has also earned it’s place in the Hollywood hall of fame, making appearances on the sets of hit TV shows and films such as 24 and Mission: Impossible III.
Humanscale are famous internationally for creating a wide range of high-quality, well-designed and eye-catching office furniture and products.
